Homespun Harbor was established in 1993 on the shores of Pearl Harbor in Aiea, Hawai'i. The original focus was
a country theme, both in gift items and fabric. This changed over time. It wasn't long before the store became
a full fledged quilt shop, quickly becoming the Island's foremost quilting center. The goal was to provide the
best quality merchandise, along with the best possible advice to all quilters. That mission continues today.
Dennis and Ghleanna Reeves are the owners and operators. They lived on Oahu many years, and embraced the culture
and the beauty of that special place. So much of their business philosophy is tied into the "Aloha
Spirit". Although they no longer reside there, they bring Hawaii in their hearts to the Mainland.
Dennis took early retirement to help Ghleanna in the shop. He has become a quilter himself, and best of all he
is a math whiz. He is the resident expert on figuring out how to resize a quilt! The shop is influenced & reflects the culture of their beloved Hawaiian Islands, with the colorful fabrics in shades that are bright
and bold as well as soft and gentle. They also feature a large line of Asian fabric and prints along with a
tremendous assortment of Batiks. The shop and their grandchildren grew up together, resulting in a great line
of baby, kids and juvenile prints. The military influence of Oahu gave birth to a wonderful line of Americana
fabric.
The Reeves' moved to Hollister, CA early in 2003. Their daughter and three grandchildren, Michael, Travis & Hailey, had decided to move to the Mainland, and the idea of not living close to them was simply not possible. So, they packed
up their house and their store and moved to the small quaint town nestled in the gentle rolling hills along the
California Central Coast. The doors reopened on August 8, 2003.
Their store reflects their commitment to family and community, with everyone pitching in to help out and greet
each in their own special way. For example, Hailey is a all grown up 4 year old. She has decided to be a decorator, so she often drags bolts and fat quarters around to make a display. And she can fold fat quarters like a pro! Michael has been
greeting customers since he was born. He loves folding fat quarters, hunting for coordinating fabric for kits
and fat quarter packs, and helping customers ferry bolts back and forth and all the way to their cars. We call
him Mr. Aloha. Travis enjoys finding the right spots to put the bolts back, running the cash register, punching
the Fabric Collectors Club Keytags and helping his grandfather enter computer data. They are 12 and
10. Kirsten has a great eye for color and is usually present when selecting new fabric. She also lends general
support when she can find the time with her busy schedule of working and raising three children.
Dennis and Ghleanna really love what they do. They insist on having fun and the store reflects this with lots of laughter
and an easy homey atmosphere.
